It includes a set of instructions that will lay the foundations for the Commission to reform its voluntary guidelines on non-financial reporting (2014/95/EU). Furthermore, the European Commission has unveiled a series of draft rules on how investment firms and insurance distributors should account for sustainability issues when advising their clients. These recent announcements are part of the Commission’s Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth, which represents one of the pivotal steps towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement pledge and the EU’s agenda for sustainable development. This year the report focuses on work and on the effects of its transformations on people and firms across countries. Work is changing and is increasing its demand for nonroutine cognitive and socio-behavioural skills. As individuals are more educated, human capital accumulates and technological progress continues to create new opportunities. Consequently, the job market becomes more global and firms ought to adapt their scope as well as their regulations. The main findings of the 2019 World Development Report are highlighted here to understand the role that Sub-Saharan Africa plays within the debate on the changing nature of work. Through satellite data it is possible to observe lighting during daylight hours, and especially at night, and to identify the areas where populations without access to the electricity grid or to autonomous generation solutions are concentrated. Since the satellite data are constantly updated over time, the interface allows tracking of the evolution of the electrification process, including the demographic dynamics. The high resolution of the data makes it possible to understand more effectively the geographical areas with or without access to electricity in the Sub-Saharan area. The dataset supports the policymakers involved in energy planning aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 7 of the 2030 Agenda for universal access to modern and sustainable energy. This document takes into account the Recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), released in June 2017, and the Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance (TEG) Report, first published in January 2019. These Guidelines also consider the stakeholder feedback on the TEG’s work, and the results of a targeted online consultation carried out by the services of the European Commission in February-March 2019. The document aims at providing a useful insight on how companies and financial institutions should approach the climate-related financial disclosure, and offer an in-depth commentary on what the Commission intends by reporting in terms of climate-related risks, dependencies and opportunities, business model, policies and due diligence, outcomes, principal risks and their management, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI). This recent update is part of the EU Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth, first published on the 8th of March 2018, which represents one of the pivotal steps towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement pledge and the EU’s agenda for sustainable development. The tabula rasa conditions offer many chances but the ownership structure represents a major obstacle towards a sustainable reconstruction. Urban borders in Syrian cities before, during and after the civil war are undergoing processes of urban metamorphosis dictated by economic, social and historical causes. The comprehension of the complex concurrent factors that shaped current conditions is a starting point for the development of future strategies capable of acting as an alternative to current reconstruction laws that tend to intensify rather than diminish conflict. To support this, several legislative proposals have been issued which have been further specified in Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance (TEG) Reports published from January to September 2019. These reports provide recommendations and develop minimum requirements on specific issues referring to: Taxonomy, creating a unified classification system on what can be considered an environmentally sustainable economic activity; the introduction of a European Green Bond Standard to create a voluntary standard to enhance the effectiveness and comparability of the green bond market; common criteria to create European Climate Benchmarks to avoid misleading users of financial products. This document gives an overview of all these measures, highlighting moreover, their impact and benefits for the different players in the market.
